Professionals who demonstrate clinical expertise through education, experience, and a rigorous examination are eligible for certification as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Consultant (CEDS-C). Certification elevates your professional standing in the field and provides opportunities for training, networking, and career opportunities.
It is iaedp’s™ mission to promote excellence in competency assessment for professionals in the eating disorders field through offering a rigorous set of criteria for the evaluation of education, training, knowledge and experience. iaedp’s™ goal is to provide professional certification that is obtainable and affordable without compromising the high level of standards necessary.
iaedp™ has designed its certification program requirements to insure its certified professionals are able to demonstrate expertise through a range of professional activities, achievements, supervised activities, and testing. Following is a step by step guide to simplify the certification process for the traditional route. If you have practiced as a licensed clinician for 10 or more years, the committee recommends you review the Unique Pathways option to see if you qualify for this route created for the experienced professional (this pathway will be phased out after August 1, 2025).
2025 Certification Changes:
Consolidation to a Single Certification (CEDS or CEDS-C)
Phasing Out Unique Pathways
Discontinuation of the Legacy Designation Program
Changes to Application Renewal Standards for Consultant Certification
For accreditation purposes, we’re enhancing our renewal standards for CEDS-C to include 3 hours of continuing education specific to consultation or supervision within the required 20 hours.
Streamlining Initial Application Requirements
We’re simplifying the initial application process by removing the need to submit a Statement of intent, treatment approach, case study, symposium attendance, and proof of iaedp membership.
Simplifying Renewal Requirements
For renewals, we will no longer require proof of iaedp membership or symposium attendance.
